What is Dementia?
Dementia is a group of brain disorders that affect memory and impair one’s personality, judgment, mood and social functioning
It is a ‘silent epidemic’ found mainly among people in their older ages
5.3 million Indians aged 60 years and above, which equals to one in 27 people, are affected by Dementia
The ‘Dementia in India Report 2020’ states that by 2030, this total will rise to 7.6 million people
Why Dementia Care Centres?
Our health infrastructures and available Dementia services are grossly inadequate to address the needs of this growing segment
Poor members suffering from Dementia have to cope with high out-of-pocket expenditure, loss of work and wages as well as lack of benefits and social insurance
The family members (caregivers) too are affected psychologically, socially and financially
Caregiving duties demand 24*7 support, often leading to stress and frustration
In order to stimulate and engage people with Dementia, support caregivers and reach out to the poor patients with quality service, Dignity Foundation runs Dementia Care Centre program. We have one centre located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. We are also in the process of launching a one-of-its-kind Dementia Care Centre in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
